We wanted a getaway that felt romantic yet relaxed—and Aransas Oaks delivered. We parked the rig, left the engine on “vacation mode,” and breathed out.
Daytimes were lazy: hammocks strung, long walks to the bay’s edge, soft naps under oaks. We explored Rockport’s downtown, poking into art galleries, small boutiques, and enjoying creamy local ice cream.
One evening I surprised my partner with a gulf fish dinner cooked on the grill: fillets seasoned with citrus, garlic, and herbs, served with grilled zucchini, corn, and a crisp salad. I brought battery lights and candles—table by the rig.
Later, we walked hand in hand to the beach—moonlight shimmering on water, distant waves whispering. We paused, listened, let time soften. Earlier I’d packed a thermos of hot chocolate; we sipped it while sitting on driftwood logs.
This kind of escape—intimate, unhurried, with nature as companion—has stayed with me long after we left.
