As the first cold snap struck back home, we packed up the rig and set course for Aransas Oaks RV Resort—our winter “migratory” haven. The mild gulf breezes, gentle sun, and quiet community felt like balm to frozen bones.

Long days became ritual: breakfast al fresco, afternoon strolls along the bay, evenings by the fireplace or in the clubhouse with new friends. We joined impromptu card games, walked dogs, traded recipes.

One afternoon we drove into Rockport and visited small galleries, local artisan shops, and ate fresh seafood plates (shrimp, oysters, fish tacos). The locals welcomed us with casual kindness; we felt less traveler and more neighbor.

In camp, I taught a simple one-pot jambalaya over the fire for a group dinner: smoked sausage, shrimp, bell pepper, onions, rice, Creole seasoning—all in one deep Dutch oven. We passed bowls around, dipped hands, laughed heartily.

Snowbirds we may have been, but at Aransas Oaks we found new roots—temporary but real.
